Series of crashes leads to impaired driving charges

A West Lorne man faces a list of charges after allegedly driving drunk and causing four collisions.

London police say a man took, without permission, the vehicle of an aquaintance around 6 p.m. Tuesday. It's alleged the man drove the vehicle westbound on Oxford Street and rear-ended a vehicle that was waiting at a red light at Oxford and Hyde Park Road. After leaving the scene, the driver then hit a sign in the area before heading north on Hyde Park Road. The driver then hit a light standard, which caused it to fall.

Police say the driver continued north on Hyde Park Road and rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped at the intersection of Hyde Park Road and Royal York Road.

Fortunately, there were no reported injuries.

After getting several calls from concerned citizens, police responded to the area and made an arrest. Officers seized a bottle of liquor and a quantity of suspected cocaine.

A 46-year-old West Lorne man is charged with impaired driving, taking a vehicle without consent, failing to stop at the scene of an accident, possession of a Schedule 1 substance, and driving while suspended.

Police say the four collisions caused about $75,000 in damage to vehicles and property.
