LHSC names new president and CEO

The London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC) has dropped the word "interim" from the title of hospital President and CEO Dr. Jackie Schleifer Taylor.

The hospital's board of directors announced on Wednesday Schleifer Taylor has permanently been named to the role. She had been the interim president and CEO since mid-January.

"Dr. Schleifer Taylor brings a wealth of hospital and health system experience and a proven track record of leadership to this position. She is an inspiring and transformative leader with a vision both for LHSC and Ontario’s health system,” said Board Chair Phyllis Retty. “We are confident her deep knowledge of health care and of the needs of patients and families, her academic achievements, and the respect she generates across the health system will ensure LHSC will play a pivotal role in meeting the needs of our community and shaping the health care of the future.”

Prior to being appointed interim president and CEO at the start of the year, Schleifer Taylor was the hospital's vice president and chief clinical officer. She also previously served as the president of Children’s Hospital and has provided expert advice to the provincial government on various subjects including pandemic response and maternal and child health.

Schleifer Taylor is the chair of the Provincial Council for Maternal and Child Health, in addition to her position at the hospital.

She was selected to permanently fill the LHSC's top spot after an "extensive" and "rigorous" search, the board said.

"I am honoured by the board’s confidence in my leadership and excited to lead LHSC into the future,” said Schleifer Taylor. “LHSC is a dynamic organization that is dedicated to transforming the lives of patients and families through innovative care, research, and education. I look forward to tackling the challenges ahead, inspired by the strength and resilience of all who work at LHSC.”
