COVID-19 outbreak declared at Strathroy school

While the number of new COVID-19 cases reported within London-area schools was slightly lower on Wednesday, a new outbreak of the virus was declared at a school in Strathroy.

The Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) declared the outbreak at Mary Wright Public after three additional COVID-19 cases were identified, for a total of five active infections at the school.

This latest outbreak brings the total number of local schools dealing with outbreaks to four. Other schools with outbreak are St Vincent De Paul Catholic Elementary in Strathroy and Notre Dame Catholic and  St. Nicholas Senior Catholic in London.

Thames Valley also confirmed two more COVID-19 cases Wednesday at Port Burwell Public School. There are now a total of six active cases at that school.

All schools will remain open on Thursday and school officials have notified direct contacts of the infected individuals and have advised them to self-isolate for 10 days.

"For all confirmed cases, families and staff at the school will be notified by letter. Local Public Health units will contact any close contacts directly," a statement on the TVDSB COVID-19 Alerts page reads.

The school board reiterated that it continues to follow health and safety protocols recommended by provincial health officials and the Ministry of Education.

More information about the cases can be found online.
