Two outbreaks declared at London-area schools

There was another large jump in COVID-19 cases and two outbreaks recorded within local public schools on Thursday.

Late Thursday evening, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) announced eight schools in the London-area detected new COVID-19 infections, two of the schools declared outbreaks as a result.

The schools that reported the cases are:

• Emily Carr Public School in London • Kensal Park French Immersion Public School in London • Kettle Creek Public School in Port Stanley • Pierre Elliott Trudeau French Immersion Public School in St. Thomas (outbreak declared) • Westfield Public School in Tillsonburg • Glendale High School in Tillsonburg (outbreak declared) • Oakridge Secondary School in London • Westminster Secondary School in London

All schools will remain open on Friday.

"Health units investigate cases to identify close contacts and follow up directly to provide specific testing advice," a release from the TVDSB read. "If you do not receive a letter from Thames Valley indicating the public health unit has identified your child as a close contact, your child is not considered to be at risk."

As of Thursday, there are 42 active cases of COVID-19 within Thames Valley public schools. A full-list of past and present cases can be found on the school board's website.
