COVID-19 claims another life in Elgin County

A woman in her 50s in the latest person in the region to succumb to COVID-19.

Southwestern Public Health (SPH), the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported the woman's death on Tuesday. Her's is the 95th death linked to the virus in the two counties since the start of the pandemic. SPH also reported 18 new cases Tuesday, bringing the total to 4,847. There are currently 126 active cases in Elgin and Oxford.

The Middlesex London Health Unit reported just seven new cases on Tuesday. Since the start of the pandemic, London and Middlesex County have seen a total of 14,572 confirmed cases. Of those, 14,235 are considered by the health unit to be "resolved." There are now 91 active cases in the community. No deaths were reported Tuesday, so the London-ara death toll remains at 246.

The London Health Sciences Centre says it is caring for eight COVID-19 patients. Five or fewer are in intensive care. The hospital uses the “five or fewer” figure when the number of patients get low enough that giving an exact number might compromise patient privacy. None of the patients in intensive care are in Children's Hospital.

Ontario reported 441 new cases on Tuesday. Three deaths were also reported, bringing Ontario's COVID-19 death toll to 9,903. The province also reported 456 resolved cases. That leaves the number of active cases in Ontario at 4,022.
