Jobless rate falls again

For the fourth straight month, the unemployment rate in the London area went down in October.

Figures released Friday by Statistics Canada showed the jobless rate in the London Census Metropolitan Area, which includes St. Thomas, Strathroy, and other surrounding communities, was 6.7 per cent in October. The rate was 7.3 per cent in September.

Statistics Canada says roughly 2,700 jobs were added last month.

There was no change in the Labour Participation Rate, which measures the percentage of the working age population that is either employed or actively looking for work. It remained at 65.2 per cent.

Nationally, the jobless rate fell for the fifth straight month, falling from 6.9 per cent in September to 6.7 per cent in October. The Ontario unemployment rate was 7 per cent last month, down from 7.3 per cent in September.
