London has a new millionaire

A London man's decision to buy a lottery ticket earlier this month has made him a millionaire.

Hughie Gale of London won $1,345,573.80 in the October 2 Lottario draw. The 62-year-old said he bought the ticket on a whim, noting he usually plays other lotteries.

“I usually play Lotto 6/49 or LottoMax but this time I decided to buy two Lottario,” he said. “I thought I won $13 at first, then the clerk said, ‘Your day just got better because you won over $1 million!’”

Gale said when he went home to tell his wife about the win, he was overcome with emotion and could only hold up the ticket for her to see.

"She said, ‘No, you didn’t!’ I said ‘Yes!’ and we were both emotional and she started crying,” he said.

Gale plans to pay off his mortgage and complete some home renovations with his win.
