Cyclist killed in hit and run

Provincial police say a cyclist has died after a hit and run near Strathroy.

According to the Middlesex County Ontario Provincial Police, emergency crews were called around 9:15 p.m. Monday to Calvert Drive for a report of a collision. Police determined that a cyclist was riding westbound when they were hit by a westbound vehicle. The cyclist, a 45-year-old from Strathroy, was pronounced dead at the scene.

“The vehicle involved in this incident failed to remain at the scene of the collision and investigators are encouraging the driver of the vehicle to contact police,” police said.

The name of the cyclist is not being released until next of kin have been notified.

Police are asking anyone who was on Calvert Drive between 6:30 p.m., and 7:45 p.m. Monday to contact police if they observed anything suspicious. They’re also asking area residents to check their security surveillance cameras to see if the recordings captured the vehicle or cyclist.
