The number of new covid-19 cases in the London region appears to be on a downward trend but still remains in the double digits.
The Middlesex London Health Unit reported 19 new infections Saturday, down 14 from on Friday and two from Thursday.
No new deaths have been reported since public health officials announced the death of a man in his 70s on Wednesday.
The number of active cases in the community, as of Saturday, is 161.
Three outbreaks remain active at schools in the London area. They are at Wilfrid Jury Public School, Ekcoe Central School, and Lord Elgin Public School. Lord Elgin has closed until next week as it deals with a growing number of cases. As of Saturday, Lord Elgin has 9 active cases.
The London Health Sciences Centre says it is caring for 13 COVID-19 patients, seven of whom are in intensive care.
As of Friday, Southwestern Public Health, the health unit for Elgin and Oxford counties, reported 21 new cases. It says there are a total of 43 active cases in the two counties.
Provincially, there were 704 new cases reported Saturday, along with seven more deaths. Of the new infections reported Saturday, 506 cases involved people who are either unvaccinated, partially vaccinated, or their vaccination status is unknown.
There are 274 people in the hospital being treated for COVID. Of those, 162 are in intensive care. The majority of patients are unvaccinated.
