Roadside assault on 401 results in charges, one suspect outstanding

Provincial police in Oxford County have charged one person and are searching for another after a scrap ensued on the side of the 401.

At around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday, Ontario Provincial Police say they received a call about an assault on Highway 401 near Ingersoll. Officers with the West Region Tactics and Rescue Unit, the Emergency Response Team and the Canine Unit responded to the scene.

According to OPP, a physical fight erupted between three individuals. Police say a witness came to intervene when two suspects got back into the vehicle and fled, leaving the victim behind.

The victim was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries sustained during the fight.

Following the incident, police have arrested and charged a 27-year-old London man with assault and failure to comply with a release order.

The OPP continue to search for a second suspect described as Indigenous male, approximately 26-years-old, around 160 lbs and standing at 5'5". He was last seen wearing a black, long-sleeved shirt with white lettering, black jeans with red and white shoes.
