18 new COVID-19 cases detected in London, Middlesex

The number of new daily COVID-19 cases continues to be in the double-digits for London and the surrounding area.

The Middlesex-London Health Unit reported 18 new cases of the virus on Sunday, which is a decline from the 21 cases detected on Saturday. This marks the 12th straight day where the daily number of COVID-19 cases has been in the double-digits.

The COVID-related death toll remained unchanged on Sunday, with been no new COVID-related deaths in the last 24 hours. There are currently 178 active cases of the virus in the region.

The health unit has reported a total of 13,935 cases of COVID-19 in London and Middlesex County since the beginning of the pandemic.

Just over 82 per cent of the 887 new COVID-19 cases reported since August 13 were among people who were not yet fully vaccinated. The unvaccinated and those who have only received one dose also accounted for 88.2 per cent of all hospitalizations locally over the last six weeks.

As of September 18, 79.4 per cent of eligible residents in London-Middlesex were fully vaccinated.

As of Friday, the London Health Sciences Centre has 11 COVID-19 inpatients in its care. Of those, five or fewer are listed in intensive care and none are admitted to Children’s Hospital. Currently, there are five or fewer hospital staff who have tested positive for the virus.
