Two injured in fire at Thames Valley main office

A fire at the Thames Valley District School Board headquarters injured two people, officials with the London Fire Department have said.

At around 2:30 p.m. Thursday, crews responded to the building on Dundas Street near Highbury Avenue North, for a call of a fire in the basement. Firefighters arrived and quickly got the fire under control.

Fire officials confirmed two people were treated on scene for non-life-threatening injuries. No other injuries have been reported. Crews cleared the scene just before 4 p.m., and a fire investigator has been called in to investigate. A damage estimate has not been provided.

While the fire department has not released an official cause, the school board's Public Affairs Coordinator Richard Hoffman said before the fire, a power outage happened at the education centre while subcontractors were working on the building's electrical system.

"The Education Centre will be closed to the public and Education Centre employees until the damage can be assessed and repairs carried out," Hoffman said in a statement to Blackburn News.

Staff will work remotely on Friday, and the school board will provide updates as they become available.
