East London townhome sustains $100K in damage after fire

London firefighters were busy late Monday night after a fire erupted at a home in the area of Oxford Street East and Third Street.

Sometime around 11 p.m., crews responded to the scene of a fire at a townhouse on Culver Drive, off Third Street. According to London fire officials, smoke could be seen coming from a second-storey window upon arrival.

London fire officials said all occupants got out safely, and no one was injured. The fire was declared out before 1 a.m. Tuesday and fire investigators arrived to determine the cause and origin of the blaze. Officials later said the cause was deemed accidental.

Public Information Coordinator Shannon Byron told BlackburnNews.com the fire erupted due to the misuse of combustible materials near a household appliance. Combustible materials are items that can burn easily, such as paper, cardboard or clothing.

"There was smoke damage in the home and smoke damage to contents, as well as water damage in the home," Byron said.

As a result, damages are estimated at $100,000.
