Over 90 per cent of Thames Valley staff vaccinated

According to officials with the Thames Valley District School Board, 92 per cent of staff have attested that they're partially or fully vaccinated.

The board confirmed 97 per cent of the 11,086 active educators and support staff have completed their mandatory vaccination declaration.

A total of 10,010 workers told the school board they have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while 180 have had at least one dose and are awaiting their second. Another 36 workers have given medical proof for the reason they're not vaccinated. 304 people have yet to provide the TVDSB with their vaccination status.

"I am proud so many of our staff are vaccinated to keep their students and colleagues safe from COVID-19," said Education Director Mark Fisher. "Anyone who is in direct contact with our students should be fully vaccinated unless they have a medical exemption."

Workers who are not fully vaccinated are required to submit to twice-weekly negative COVID-19 test results. Staff who fail to declare their vaccination status will face "progressive discipline" that could result in suspension without pay the board said.

On September 8, the school board of trustees voted against mandatory vaccination among employees and instead require frequent testing and proof of vaccine.

The vaccination policy takes effect September 27.
