London-area logs another 33 COVID-19 cases

For a second day in a row, the London region's daily tally of new COVID-19 cases rose above 30.

The Middlesex London Health Unit logged 33 new cases Thursday, the same number recorded the previous day. The region had started the week with lower single-day case numbers with seven reported Tuesday, 11 recorded Monday, and 22 confirmed on Sunday. Every day but one over the past five weeks has seen daily case counts in the double-digits.

The total number of cases locally since the pandemic began is now 13,732, according to the health unit.

The death toll is unchanged at 237, with no additional COVID-19 related deaths reported in London or Middlesex County since Tuesday.

Of the 862 new COVID-19 cases to be reported in the region over the past six weeks, 83.2 per cent were among people who were not yet fully vaccinated against the virus or had not reached full immunity. As of last Saturday, 84.7 per cent of all local residents 12 and older have received one dose of the vaccine and 78.4 per cent have been given both shots. As the vaccination effort continues to focus on easing access, the health unit opened a walk-in vaccine clinic at White Oaks Mall on Tuesday. Anyone needing a first or second dose can go to that location without an appointment any day this week.
