Injuries suffered by a man being taken into custody by London police in June weren't severe enough to merit an investigation by the province's police watchdog.
The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said on Monday it has ended its investigation into the June 28 incident at a home on Oxford Street near Talbot Street.
London police went to the apartment building early in the morning after getting reports about a man acting erratically in a hallway. When officers arrived, the man was alleged to have become "resistive and uncooperative." He was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act.
While being taken into custody the man suffered an undisclosed injury and was taken to hospital for treatment. The SIU, which investigates incidents involving police officers that have resulted in death, serious injury, or allegations of sexual assault, was notified and launched a probe into the incident.
"The man did not sustain an injury within the terms of the SIU’s mandate," SIU Director Joseph Martino determined. "Accordingly, the SIU is without statutory jurisdiction in this matter and the file has been closed."
