SIU clears London police in man's facial injuries

Ontario's police oversight agency has ended its investigation into injuries suffered by a London man who tried to get away from police on a bike.

The Special Investigations Unit looked into the August 15 incident and determined that the man was riding a bike when he saw a London police cruiser. The man was the subject of an arrest warrant and tried to escape the scene on his bike.

However, he hit a fence in the area of Dufferin Avenue and Adelaide Street, causing injuries to his face.

"Based on the SIU’s preliminary inquiries, it was established the man was solely responsible for his injuries suffered from the impact of hitting the fence," the SIU said. "Director Martino found that there was patently nothing to investigate in relation to potential criminal liability of any officer involved in this case."

The SIU said the file is now closed.
