A reminder for those who have put off renewing their licence plate stickers, a deadline has been set.
The province has put a deadline in place for those needing to renew expired driver's licences, licence plate stickers and identification cards following pandemic setbacks.
Drivers and vehicle owners are encouraged to book an appointment at Service Ontario or online to begin the renewal process before the February 28, 2022 deadline with products that have expired on or after March 1, 2020.
Last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Ontario announced that renewals would be put on hold to keep the public from gathering at Service Ontario locations.
Those needing to renew will be able to book an appointment at their local Service Ontario center or online to have updated documents received in the mail.
On Wednesday, Minister of Transportation Caroline Mulroney said it's essential the public has their updated paperwork.
"It's critical that drivers and vehicle owners have up-to-date documents for work, access to services and travel, and to keep our roads safe," Mulroney said. "I strongly encourage those who have deferred their renewals, approximately 17 per cent of Ontarians, to plan ahead and renew their documents online."
To ensure products can be properly renewed, photo cards and health cards must also be valid, and have all applicable fees paid following the deadline.
Additionally, products not renewed during the extended deadline will be expected to pay for previous and current year fees.
Novice drivers classed G1, G2, M1, or M2 will have until December 31, 2022 to requalify or upgrade their novice driver's licence.
