More salad kits recalled over listeria concerns

A recall of Eat Smart brand salad kits issued earlier this week has been expanded.

A food safety investigation launched by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) identified seven additional kits and two salad blends that may be contaminated with listeria.

The recalled salads include Curation Foods Kale Salad Blends in 907 gram bags and Eat Smart Chopped Salad Kits in the following flavours - chili-lime crunch, homestyle ranch, hot honey, Mexican fiesta, salt and vinegar, southwest, and sweet kale.

The original recall was issued for Eat Smart brand Asian Sesame Chopped Salad Kits on Tuesday after testing by the food inspection agency found the possible Listeria contamination.

All of the salads were sold across Ontario and possibly nationally. They come in various sized packages with a best before date of August 24, 2021.

Anyone who bought any of these salads is advised to throw them in the garbage or return them to the store where purchased.

Food contaminated with listeria may not look or smell spoiled, but can still make you sick, according to the CFIA. Symptoms of Listeria infection include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness. Pregnant women, the elderly, and people with weakened immune systems are particularly at risk.

There have been no reported illnesses linked to the recalled salad kit.
