A woman who has spent more than a decade helping women and girls facing violence will take over the reins of the London Abused Women’s Centre.
Jennifer Dunn was officially named as the new executive director of the agency on Tuesday.
She replaces long-time Executive Director Megan Walker who will retire from the role in one week.
Dunn was promoted to associate executive director in January when Walker made her future plans known. She was then bumped to acting executive director at the start of the summer in order to provide a "seamless transition," the agency's board of directors said.
During that time, Dunn played a key role in advocating against men’s violence against women in sports, becoming a founding member of the Pan-Canadian Abolitionist Feminist Advocates. She also engaged key stakeholders from across North America to help end violence against women and girls.
"I am grateful to continue walking the path Megan has already been paving," Dunn said in a statement. "There is a lot of important work to do for women and girls in our community, province, country and beyond. I look forward to my future with the organization and am honoured to be the fourth Executive Director of the London Abused Women’s Centre."
Dunn's first day in her new role will be September 1.
