Officer assaulted while arresting suspected vandal

A London police officer suffered minor injuries while trying to arrest a man alleged to have broken a window at a business in Old East Village.

Officers on routine bike patrol found the smashed window on Dundas Street near Adelaide Street just before 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday. A witness was able to provide a description of the individual responsible.

Police found a suspect in the area of Dundas and Colborne streets shortly after. He took off as officers approached. They gave chase, stopping the man a block away.

The man resisted arrest and assaulted an officer, police said.

A 39-year-old London man is charged with mischief under $5,000, assaulting a police officer, and resisting arrest. He was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
