London boy injured after being struck by moving vehicle

London police say a young boy was sent to hospital after he was hit by a vehicle he attempted to hold on to in the city's east end.

At around 7 p.m. Thursday, police were called to an area of Huron Street just east of Sandford Street for a report of a young male, who was hit by a car. The boy's exact age has not been specified by police.

Officers later learned the boy was riding on a scooter when he grabbed on to the rear handle of a moving vehicle passing by him. He was hit by the car after he fell off the scooter.

Paramedics arrived to take the boy to hospital where he was treated for serious, but non-life threatening injuries.

Following the incident, London police are reminding the public of the dangers of hanging on to moving vehicles and the risks it could pose.

"While we have heard about individuals attaching to vehicles in the winter months, this type of practice is dangerous year-round, and could result in disastrous consequences," said Sergeant Sean Harding of the Traffic Management Unit.

No charges have been laid in connection to this incident.
