West Lorne man charged with impaired driving in crash that killed partner

A West Lorne man has been charged with several offences including impaired driving causing death in a multi-vehicle crash that killed his 'soulmate' earlier this month.

The three vehicles collided at Wonderland Road and Springbank Drive around 7:15 p.m on July 8.

Courtney Ovens, 39, a passenger in one of the vehicles, was rushed to hospital where she later died from her injuries. An 18-year-old man and a 19-year-old woman were also hurt.

On Tuesday, more than two weeks after the crash, London police announced 24-year-old Bevin Henning of West Lorne is charged with six offences including impaired operation of a vehicle causing death, and two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court in relation to the charges on October 12.

Ovens' obituary described Henning as her "soulmate." It also stated the 39-year-old woman had an "effervescent personality" and a "pure heart."

"She cultivated many meaningful friendships during her life and will be sorely missed as an advocate to her friends," the obituary posted on the Westview Funeral Chapel website reads. "Courtney will be fondly remembered for her ability to always reach out with love and support and to keep family bonds strong. She was and will always be loved unconditionally by her family."

Ovens is the second person to be killed in a crash involving an alleged impaired driver in London this month. Jake Epp, a 26-year-old father of four, died in a two-vehicle crash on Colonel Talbot Road, just south of Highway 401 on July 15. Mohamad Abdullatif, 37, of Mt. Brydges is charged with one count each of impaired operation of a vehicle causing death, dangerous operation of a vehicle causing death, and driving a vehicle without a licence.
