Teen charged in Old East Village shooting

A 16-year-old from Grimsby has been charged in connection with a shooting in Old East Village that sent one person to hospital Sunday night.

London police responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Dundas and Hewitt streets around 9:20 p.m. Officers arrived to find a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A suspect in the shooting was arrested nearby shortly after.

Police announced charges against the 16-year-old boy on Tuesday. The teen, who cannot be named because of his age, is charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent to wound/endanger life, careless use of a firearm, possessing a restricted firearm without a licence, pointing a firearm, and failure to comply with release order.

The 16-year-old remains in police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on August 4.

Investigators are also trying to track down a second suspect in the case who was seen with the accused at the time of the shooting. He is described as being between 5’9 and 6’0" with a slim build and was wearing dark-coloured clothing.
