Victim in apartment fire passes away

A man critically injured in a fire at a Kipps Lane apartment has died of his injuries.

London police announced Wednesday that the man had died in hospital. He was taken there Monday afternoon, after fire broke out in an apartment at a building on Kipps Lane near Adelaide Street.

Crews were able to extinguish the flames within half an hour and residents were allowed to return to their units.

Police say the investigation continues, but the fire appears to have started by accident and "the circumstances surrounding its origin are no longer considered to be suspicious."

The man's name is not being released at the request of his family.

Anyone with information about this fire is asked to call police at 519-661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
