Charges likely after teen driver collides with ambulance

An ambulance en route to the hospital was knocked off course in a two-vehicle crash in Aylmer.

Elgin County paramedics were transporting a patient late Friday afternoon when an SUV pulled out of the McDonalds on Talbot Street West, right into its path.

Despite the ambulance driver's efforts to avoid the SUV, the two vehicles collided. The force of the crash sent the ambulance onto the sidewalk before it hit a "no parking" sign.

The emergency vehicle had its lights and sirens on at the time of the collision, Aylmer police said.

No injuries were reported. Another ambulance was called to take the patient from the damaged ambulance the rest of the way to hospital.

Police continue to investigate the cause of the collision.

"Charges are pending," police said.
