Weekend crash near Aylmer deemed fatal

A 77-year-old woman has succumbed to serious injuries she sustained in a car crash north of Aylmer last Saturday morning.

At around 9:45 a.m. July 10, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) in Elgin county, along with emergency crews were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Imperial Road and Ron McNeil Line.

Investigators determined that a red SUV failed to stop at Ron McNeil and collided with the passenger side of a black car heading south. The area was closed for several hours while crews surveyed and cleared the scene.

Both vehicles only had one occupant in them. The driver of the black car, a 39-year-old London resident, and the 77-year-old driver of the red SUV, were taken to hospital with serious injuries.

On Friday, OPP announced that the 77-year-old driver, identified as Donna Deans of Belmont, died in hospital on Wednesday.

Police have now classified the incident as a fatal collision and continue to investigate.
