Fewer than 40 active COVID-19 cases in London, Middlesex

The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the London area continues to fall.

According to figures released Sunday by the Middlesex London Health Unit, there are just 37 known active cases in the area, down from 70 at the beginning of the week. Seven new cases were reported on Sunday, bringing the total since the start of the pandemic to 12,553. There were no deaths reported Sunday, so the death toll remains at 226.

The London Health Sciences Centre is currently caring for 10 patients with COVID-19. Of those, fewer than five are in intensive care. An outbeak on the 8th floor transplant unit is ongoing. That is the only institutional outbreak being reported by the health unit at this time.

Across Ontario, 287 new cases were reported Sunday. Over 202,000 vaccine doses were given in Ontario on Saturday. Health Minister Christine Elliott says over 14-million doses have been given in Ontario.
