Arrest made in 2015 death of 15-month-old boy

Nearly six years after his death, an arrest has been made in the death of a toddler who sustained life-ending injuries while at a home daycare in Strathroy.

On October 31, 2015, 15-month-old Nathaniel McLellan died in London several days after he was admitted to the Children's Hospital.

Following an investigation, a 42-year-old Strathroy woman has been arrested and charged.

Meggin Van Hoof is charged with one count of manslaughter in connection to McLellan's death.

The investigation was completed by members of the Strathroy Police Service and Middlesex Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) under the direction of the Criminal Investigations Branch, Office of the Chief Coroner and Forensic Pathology Unit.

"Major cases such as child death investigations can have a major impact on all communities, especially small towns such as Strathroy-Caradoc," read a release from Strathroy-Caradoc police chief Mark Campbell. "Our community is comprised of caring and respectful residents; I encourage everyone to be a source of support during a challenging time."

Van Hoof was held in police custody for a scheduled court appearance on Wednesday.
