SIU investigating after suspect injured following multiple vehicle thefts, crashes

The Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating after a man near Strathroy was hurt during an incident in which three vehicles were stolen in quick succession.

At around 7:19 p.m. Tuesday, officers were called after a man on a stolen motorcycle crashed on Adelaide Road in Mount Brydges. According to Strathroy-Caradoc police, the man assaulted a homeowner who came to help him, and then stole the resident's pick-up truck.

The man proceeded to drive northbound on Adelaide Road before crashing in a second, single-vehicle collision at Falconbridge Drive within a closed construction site. Police say a citizen stopped to assist the man, only to then have their vehicle stolen.

As officers arrived, the man resumed driving north on Adelaide Road when he was involved in a third, single-vehicle crash near McEvoy Road. Several police cruisers proceeded to pin the stolen vehicle as the suspect attempted to flee. He was arrested a short time later.

Following the spree of incidents, the suspect sustained unspecified injuries and was taken to hospital by paramedics.

The SIU has invoked its mandate and continues to investigate the incident.

Anyone with any information should to call the SIU at 416-622-0748 or 1-800-787-8529.
