Man charged after fire started outside of west London bank

A London man faces several charges after he allegedly caused a ruckus inside of a bank and started a fire in the parking lot.

At around 6 p.m. Wednesday, officers were called to the TD Canada Trust branch at Oxford Street West and Platts Lane for a report of a man causing a disturbance.

The man reportedly damaged property inside of the bank and threw an object at an employee before leaving the branch. Emergency crews arrived a short time later, and firefighters responded to a tree on fire in the parking lot next to the bank.

Police say the fire destroyed an evergreen tree and caused minor damage to the building. No one was injured during the incident.

A 48-year-old man has been charged with causing a disturbance, assault with a weapon, mischief under $5,000, and arson causing property damage.

The accused was scheduled to appear in court on Thursday.
