London Central Public Library closes due to COVID-19 cases

The London Public Library has temporarily closed its downtown branch after several employees tested positive for COVID-19.

According to a release, the Central Library located on 251 Dundas Street is closed until further notice while the affected staff isolate, and a deep clean of all areas of the library is conducted.

"We are working with the Middlesex London Health Unit on contact tracing and other workplace protocols. Due to the nature of Library Pick Up service and the health and safety measures in place, it is believed that there is little to no risk to Library patrons of exposure having taken place," the statement read.

The library says those with items on the hold shelf will remain available until after the branch re-opens. Item returns can still be made using outdoor return chutes.

Pick-up service at the other library locations remains available.

Employees affected by the virus worked on dates extending from April 28 to May 4.

While the risk of infection to the public is low, those who may have picked up items from the branch between those dates are advised to self-monitor for symptoms and seek testing should any develop.
