Deadline for choosing student's learning model extended by Thames Valley

Families unsure of whether to keep their kids at home this fall, or send them back to class, have a little more time to decide.

Last week, the Thames Valley District School Board (TVDSB) sent an email out to parents and guardians asking them to declare if their children will learn remotely or return for in-person classes for the 2021-2022 school year.

In a release issued on Wednesday, the school board said the extension comes under the direction of the Ministry of Education. The initial May 13 deadline is now June 1.

"We are pleased to be able to provide parents more time to make this important decision," said Education Director Mark Fisher. "While we believe that in-person learning best supports students, we also recognize that some families may want their child to learn remotely."

Parents without or with limited internet access can contact their home school for additional information.

The TVDSB has two documents on its website outlining the differences between the learning models being offered for elementary and secondary school students. Once a model is chosen, that will be the one your child will follow for the full school year.
