More charges laid at Tillsonburg golf club

Provincial police have laid additional charges after a golf club in Tillsonburg opened its course to the public despite pandemic restrictions.

On Saturday morning, Oxford County OPP announced that it had charged The Bridges of Tillsonburg Golf Club with failing to comply with the Reopening Ontario Act (ROA.)

The golf club was previously charged on Thursday with one count of not complying with the ROA.

According to the province's website, a corporation can face a fine of up to $10-million if convicted of an offence under the ROA.

The matter is scheduled to be heard at the Ontario Court of Justice in Woodstock on June 3.

OPP also announced that on Friday, five individuals at the golf club were charged with failing to comply with the ROA.

“The OPP continues to provide public safety services to the communities we serve and supports the efforts of federal, provincial and local health authorities during the current situation involving COVID-19,” said a release.

The charges come a week after the golf and country club opened for business, despite restrictions put in place by the provincial government barring outdoor recreational activities until at least May 20.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, April 24, the golf club posted that it had reached full capacity for the weekend.
