Tillsonburg golf club charged for opening against pandemic restrictions

A Tillsonburg golf club that welcomed golfers back to its greens nearly a week ago has now been charged for defying the province's pandemic restrictions.

Following an investigation, provincial police in Oxford County say The Bridges at Tillsonburg has been charged with failing to comply with the Reopening Ontario Act.

The charge comes nearly a week after the golf and country club opened for business, despite restrictions put in place by the provincial government barring outdoor recreational activities until at least May 20.

In a public Facebook post last Saturday, the golf course said they were fully booked for the weekend and thanked the public for their support.

Police are requesting that businesses and the public voluntarily comply with the lockdown and stay-at-home order.

"The OPP continues to provide public safety services to the communities we serve and supports the efforts of federal, provincial and local health authorities during the current situation involving COVID-19," said a release.

The Bridges at Tillsonburg has not publicly responded to the charge.
