Several people are facing charges after a protest in Strathroy against the provincial lockdown restrictions.
According to the Strathroy-Caradoc Police Service, officers received information about two upcoming protests in the downtown core - one planned for April 15 and another one planned for April 17.
As a result, police issued a warning to possible protestors that because of the stay-at-home order in place, protests are currently prohibited.
"The protest conducted on Thursday, April 14, 2021, was estimated at 20 people and after a short walk to town hall, dispersed within 5 minutes after being asked by police. As a result, no charges were laid," the police service said in a media release.
However, on Saturday, around 80 to 100 demonstrators again attended the Strathroy downtown core to protest.
According to police, a large number of protestors were not wearing masks or making any effort to social distance.
"When asked to disperse from police, some demonstrators left without further incident while others refused to," read the release.
As a result, four individuals were charged with an $800 fine for failing to comply with the Reopening Ontario Act/Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act.
A charge of unnecessary noise under a section of the Highway Traffic Act was also laid in relation to the incident.
According to Strathroy-Caradoc Police, the investigation is still ongoing and pending investigation, further charges may be laid.
