Fanshawe College postpones spring convocation

Fanshawe College announced the decision to postpone spring convocation ceremonies due to COVID-19 social gathering restrictions.

In a release on Tuesday, Fanshawe said it will launch a virtual graduation celebration webpage during the week of June 7.

"Fanshawe congratulates each graduating student who has worked hard to complete their studies, making sacrifices and learning different skills during these difficult times. Many graduates have completed their program without stepping foot on campus for the duration of their program," the college said in a statement.

Over 8,200 students are set to graduate from the college later this spring. Student Services vice-president Michelle Beaudoin says this year's graduating classes have gained a unique set of skills while having to navigate learning during the pandemic.

"These students will graduate under extraordinary circumstances, having persevered to complete their program during a worldwide pandemic. We are incredibly proud of each graduate and look forward to celebrating their achievements when the threat of the pandemic has subsided," said Beaudoin.

In the last year, Fanshawe has postponed both the spring and fall 2020 convocation ceremonies due to the pandemic.

No other plans on when an in-person ceremony will be held have been released as it will depend on what the regulations are on large public gatherings.
