Handful of London area schools report new COVID-19 cases

The Thames Valley District School Board reported COVID-19 infections at five schools Tuesday evening.

According to the school board, other than one case at Glen Cairn, the other four are linked to public schools outside of London. Public health officials confirmed the cases at Parkview in Komoka, Harrisfield in Ingersoll, Huron Park secondary in Woodstock and Strathroy District Collegiate Institute which now has two active cases.

All of the schools will remain open.

The Thames Valley says only those considered to have been in close contact with an affected individual will be contacted.

"If you do not receive a letter from Thames Valley indicating the public health unit has identified your child as a close contact, your child is not considered to be at risk. Only those staff and students who have been identified as a close contact will be notified and advised to stay home from school and quarantine for a period of 14 days," read a statement from the school board.

There are currently 24 active infections within the Thames Valley, more information can be found on the school board's COVID-19 webpage.
