Public asked to help identify suspect in east London arson

London police are asking for the public's help identifying a suspect seen outside of an east-end home moments before a suspicious fire last month.

The small blaze broke out outside of a home on Kiwanis Park Drive, near Brydges Street around 3:30 a.m. on February 24. Police believe the fire was deliberately set. Firefighters were able to quickly extinguish the flames.

The people who live at the home were inside at the time, but were able to escape without injury.

A 48-year-old Ottawa man was arrested two days after the fire and charged with four counts of uttering death threats, two counts of criminal harassment, and three counts of breach of undertaking.

“While we have laid charges in relation to a related investigation, we have yet to charge the individual criminally responsible for the related arson at the Kiwanis Park Drive residence,” Detective Sergeant Ryan Million said on Friday.

Police have now released an image of a suspect they said was outside of the home before the fire began.

“We’re hoping that the image we have obtained will assist us in identifying the suspect, and ultimately bring them before the courts,” said Million.

Anyone with information about this incident or who is able to help identify the person in the photo is asked to call police at 519- 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
