COVID variants of concern identified at two London area schools

The Thames Valley District school board has confirmed two COVID-19 cases at London-area schools have screened positive as variants of concern.

The board said late Wednesday night the variants were linked to previously reported cases at Sir Arthur Currie Public School in London and Strathroy District Collegiate Institute. The type of variants identified at either school has not yet been confirmed by health officials. Close contacts of the infected individuals continue to isolate and no new health and safety measures have been put in place. Both schools will remain open.

Additionally, Thames Valley reported one new case of the virus at Ekcoe Central Public School in Glencoe. As per the health unit's guidelines, the school will stay open and only those determined to have been a close contact will hear from health officials about further testing and quarantine measures.

The school board is reporting 14 active cases of COVID-19, two of which remain in outbreak status. A breakdown of all cases within the TVDSB can be found by clicking here.

As of Thursday, the Middlesex London Health Unit has four confirmed variant cases and 34 that have screen positive for a variant of concern.
