Health unit announces additional 6,900 vaccine appointments

The Middlesex London Health Unit says nearly 7,000 new COVID-19 vaccination appointments will be up for grabs starting Thursday morning.

On Tuesday, the health unit launched online and phone booking for its first round of vaccine appointments for seniors 80 and older, Indigenous adults 55 and older, and healthcare workers considered to be of high priority. All 5,000 of the available spots were booked within two hours.

Chief Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie announced on Wednesday that another 6,900 appointments will help move up the timeline of when individuals who fall under the mentioned groups can get the vaccine by two days.

A select number of appointments will be exclusively available for those booking by phone. The same goes for online bookings. Once the allocated web-based spots have been filled, the website will close.

"Many people have been disappointed because they haven’t been able to get through on the phone," said Mackie. "I want to encourage people to keep trying to get through over the course of the day if you aren’t able to connect with one of our telephone agents right away."

The booking window is scheduled to open on Thursday at 8 a.m. Appointments can be made over the phone by calling (226) 289-3560 between 8 a.m. and 5:30 p.m., seven days a week, or online by clicking here.
