Grocery store clerk assaulted in mask dispute

A 44-year-old woman is facing charges after a grocery store clerk in Aylmer was assaulted during a dispute involving a person who refused to wear a face covering while shopping.

A security officer approached the maskless woman inside of the store on John Street North in Aylmer just after 5 p.m. on Friday. The woman said she was exempt from wearing a face covering, at which point the officer explained the store's alternative methods of purchasing groceries and asked the woman to leave.

The woman refused and continued shopping.

While at the checkout, another store employee stepped in and began cancelling the woman's purchase. The woman became angry and allegedly grabbed the 20-year-old female clerk by the hand and pushed her away.

An Aylmer woman, 44, is charged with assault, trespassing, failing to leave premises when directed, and engaging in prohibited activity on premises.
