The number of COVID-19 vaccination clinics in the London region will soon go up to four.
The Middlesex London Health unit announced on Wednesday the North London Optimist Community Centre at 1345 Cheapside St. and ice pad A in the Earl Nichols Recreation Centre at 799 Homeview Rd. have been selected to house the area's third and fourth clinics.
“These facilities will allow us to expand COVID-19 vaccination efforts in our community, once more vaccine becomes available,” Medical Officer of Health Dr. Chris Mackie said in a statement. “These sites will provide more flexibility and choice once we are able to scale up the daily delivery of COVID-19 vaccine and increase the number of people who can get vaccinated according to the Province’s prioritization framework.”
Work is currently underway to ensure the two facilities meet the necessary health, safety, and security requirements of a vaccination clinic. It will be several more weeks before the two clinics open to the public, but once that happens they will remain active until at least the fall.
The facilities will be instrumental during Phase Two of Ontario’s three-phased COVID-19 vaccine distribution plan.
London's first vaccination clinic was opened in December at the Western Fair Agriplex. A second clinic to inoculate people is being setup at the Caradoc Community Centre in Mt. Brydges. It is set to open on Thursday.
