One additional COVID-19 death reported in London-Middlesex

Health officials in the London-area logged yet another COVID-19 death related to a local long-term care home on Sunday.

The latest person to pass away from the virus was a man in his 80s.

Since Monday, January 18, there have been a total of 17 deaths linked to long-term care homes in London-Middlesex. On Saturday, the health unit reported the death of a teenage male who worked at a long-term care facility in Deleware and is now the youngest person to have passed away from the virus in the region.

Since the pandemic began, there have been a total of 79 long-term care deaths in London-Middlesex and 168 deaths overall.

The local health unit also reported 43 new COVID-19 infections on Sunday, marking the eighth consecutive day daily cases have been below 100 in the region.

In Elgin and Oxford, there were 40 new COVID-19 infections reported on Sunday, according to Southwestern Public Health. The latest cases bring the total case count to 2,212 with a death toll of 53.

Elsewhere, health officials in Ontario reported 2,417 new cases across the province on Sunday, 2,759 recoveries and 50 deaths. Daily case counts in the province have now remained below 3,000 for a week straight.
