COVID-19 outbreak declared at London pizzeria

The Middlesex-London Health Unit has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at a pizzeria in London.

The outbreak was declared Sunday afternoon at Piero’s Pizza, located at 169 Wharncliffe Road South.

According to the health unit, four staff members have tested positive for the virus. Health officials were notified of an initial case at the business on Tuesday and received reports of additional cases on Friday.

In a statement, the health unit said it believes that the transmission of the virus likely occurred at the restaurant, resulting in an outbreak being declared.

Three of the employees worked while they were infectious.

"Although the employees have indicated that they wore masks while they were at work and that there is a plexiglass barrier between customers and staff at the business, there may have been a low-risk exposure for some customers," read the statement.

Customers who visited the establishment or had pizza delivered between January 15 and January 19 are asked to monitor for COVID-19 symptoms and get tested if symptoms appear.
