The Middlesex-London Health Unit (MLHU) has declared a COVID-19 outbreak at Mission Services of London.

So far, a total of nine people at the Men’s Mission shelter have tested positive for COVID-19 including five workers and four clients. The health unit was notified of the first positive case found in a resident on December 17.

The MLHU declared the outbreak after confirming five positive cases associated with the downtown shelter within the last week.

Dr. Alex Summers, Associate Medical Officer of Health for the MLHU says the health unit is working closely with Mission Services to implement outbreak measures.

“While the Health Unit has not observed ongoing mass transmission within the facility, given the number of cases associated with the Mission within the last week, the declaration of an outbreak is an important step in order to limit any further transmission of the virus within the community,” said Dr. Summers.

Those who work, reside, or access services at Men’s Mission are advised to monitor themselves for the development of COVID-19 symptoms and seek testing should any develop.
