Pair of new COVID-19 deaths in London-area

The number of deaths related to COVID-19 in the London-area now sits at 106 after two new fatalities were reported on Sunday.

Updated figures released by the Middlesex London Health Unit show that the latest deaths were a woman in her 70s and a woman in her 90s. Neither of the women was associated with a long-term care or retirement home.

There were also 88 new COVID-19 cases reported in the London-area on Sunday. The total number of cases is now at 3,549.

Meanwhile, 26 new cases were listed as being resolved on Sunday, with the number of recoveries in the region now at 2,722.

There are now 13 institutional outbreaks in the region. The latest outbreak was declared on Saturday on the fifth floor at Chelsey Park Longterm Care. According to the facility's website, two residents and one staff member have tested positive thus far.

Southwestern Public Health, the health unit covering St. Thomas, Woodstock and Elgin and Oxford counties, reported 44 new COVID-19 cases over the past 24 hours. Since the start of the pandemic, the region has recorded a total of 1,423 cases.

Province-wide, the case count reached 190,962 on Sunday with public health officials in Ontario confirming 2,964 new cases.
