University Hospital postponing outpatient appointments amid outbreak

The London Health Sciences Centre has announced more measures aimed at stopping the London area's largest outbreak of COVID-19.

The LHSC announced Monday that it is postponing all outpatient services at University Hospital, with the exception of urgent and emergency appointments, procedures, and diagnostic services.

"When possible, all other clinic appointments will be rescheduled as virtual appointments," a statement from the hospital said. "We recognize that the changes in our service delivery cause uncertainty for our patients and their loved ones. Any patient whose appointment or procedure is impacted by these further reductions, will receive direct communication from their care team."

As of Monday, the LHSC was treating 33 patients with COVID-19 and 36 staff members had tested positive. On Friday, those figures were 26 and 28, respectively. The Middlesex London Health Unit reported the death of a woman in her 80s on Monday, a death linked to the University Hospital outbreak.

On Friday, the LHSC announced that it was postponing all non-urgent and non-emergent surgeries at University Hospital. It also suspended essential visitors and caregivers, suspended student placements, and limited the movement of staff and physicians between units and hospitals.
