Rain and snow expected to start the week

Portions of southwestern Ontario may see a mixed bag of weather this week.

Environment Canada issued a special weather statement on Sunday morning that forecasts a "significant winter storm" for London and Middlesex County, Elgin County, Windsor-Essex, and Chatham-Kent.

The weather agency is tracking a low-pressure system that is expected to bring rain, snow, and strong winds to the region on Monday.

"Precipitation is expected to begin Monday morning mainly as rain, however, rain may be mixed with snow at times," said the weather agency. "Rain is then expected to change to snow Monday afternoon or evening with snow continuing into Wednesday. Snowfall amounts near 5 to 10 cm are possible by Tuesday morning. Additional snowfall amounts for Tuesday are fairly uncertain at this time, however amounts near 15 cm are possible."

Drivers are expected to prepare for difficult travel conditions, including snow-covered and icy roads on Monday night into Tuesday.

The low-pressure system is expected to remain over Southern Ontario until late Wednesday.
