Aylmer pastor charged after attending London 'freedom rally'

A controversial pastor from Aylmer has been charged after attending a protest against COVID-19 health guidelines.

Henry Hildebrandt, 57, was given a summons this week to attend court on a charge of participating in an outdoor gathering which exceeded number permitted, contrary to the Reopening Ontario Act.

The pastor of the Aylmer Church of God is to appear in court February 22, 2021.

Hildebrandt posted a video on his Facebook page of two London police officers arriving at his home and handing him his summons.

In the video, he asks the officers if he is the only attendee of the rally to be charged.

"Is everyone receiving a ticket who was there?"

The officer responds that he is not at liberty to discuss that.

Hildebrandt was one of about 200 people who attended last Sunday's rally in Victoria Park. Three London women have been charged under the Reopening Ontario Act, accused of hosting the rally.
